The sandy beach of Kalamaki is located in the southeast of Zakynthos in the bay of Laganas. The beach is part of the Marine National Park of Zakynthos, which was established to protect the endangered loggerhead turtle “Caretta-Caretta”. For this reason, there are few water sports available, such as pedal boats. There are numerous metal frames on the beach to mark and protect turtle nests. The beach is several kilometers long and the sea only gets deeper very gradually. The airport’s flight path is in the western part of Kalamaki Beach.
