Kalamaki is located in the southeast of Zakynthos in Laganas Bay. Depending on your accommodation, this may be the first place you see, as the airport is also located here. The town is known for its green surroundings of pine and olive trees. Kalamaki Beach is part of the Zakynthos National Marine Park, established to protect the endangered loggerhead turtle, "Caretta-caretta." The town mainly consists of a main road running parallel to the beach. Several asphalted roads lead from the main road to the beach, along which the accommodations are located.
Kalamaki is easy to reach, whether by car, quad bike, moped, or similar. There are also bus services connecting Kalamaki to Laganas and the capital, Zakynthos. There is ample parking along the streets, even during peak season.
Along the main road are numerous shops, including supermarkets, bakeries, souvenir shops, clothing stores, and jewelry stores. There are also numerous tavernas serving traditional cuisine and fast food. Theme nights are often offered in the evenings. However, there are no nightclubs in Kalamaki.
Kalamaki is the perfect place for travelers who want to enjoy peace and nature without having to forgo the amenities and comfort of tavernas. The town offers excellent infrastructure with apartments and tavernas, and the beach is within easy reach. Kalamaki is located in the approach path of the airport, which, although not served continuously, can still be noisy during busy airport hours.
