The sandy beach of Kalamaki is located in the southeast of Zakynthos in the bay of Laganas. The beach is part of the Marine National Park of Zakynthos, which was established to protect the endangered loggerhead turtle “Caretta-Caretta”. For this reason, there are few water sports available, such as pedal boats. There are numerous metal frames on the beach to mark and protect turtle nests. The beach is several kilometers long and the sea only gets deeper very gradually. The airport’s flight path is in the western part of Kalamaki Beach.

The sandy beach invites you to spend hours sunbathing and relaxing. The entrance to the sea is very shallow, making it ideal for children and non-swimmers. The water is turquoise blue and very clear.

With a little patience, you might even spot the famous Caretta-Caretta turtles in the sea. From the beach, you can even spot the turtles’ heads as they surface to breathe. If you want to get a little closer, take a pedal boat and head out a few meters further.

If you like watching low-flying planes approaching the airport, this is also the place for you.

Snack bars and tavernas are located directly on the beach access roads or in Kalamaki itself along the main road.
