In the northwest of Zakynthos is the Instagram hotspot of Zakynthos, Shipwreck Beach. The crystal blue sea is framed by steep white marble walls whose sloping rocks form the white pebble beach at the end of the bay. As if that wasn’t enough of a backdrop, there is a smuggler’s shipwreck, the “Panagiotis”, on the beach. In 1980, the “Panagiotis” capsized and ran aground during a storm while traveling from Kefalonia to Albania. The storm pushed the ship into the bay and has graced Navagio Beach ever since.

Navagio Beach is certainly the most famous beach in Zakynthos and one of the most photographed in the world.

The only way to get to the beach is by sea. Various cruises are offered as day tours for this purpose. However, I would recommend traveling with your own small motorboat. Motorboats can be used e.g. B. rent in Porto Vromi or in Agios Nikolaos. From Porto Vromi the journey is shorter; if you drive from Agios Nikolaos you will also pass the Blue Caves.

The viewing platform at the top of the cliffs is not really recommended. The platform is very small, there is a lot of crowding and the beach cannot be viewed from there in the full format. The best view is from the top of the cliffs. There is a trample pledge that can be committed at your own risk. After about 10 minutes. Stand on top of the cliffs and have the famous postcard view of Navagio Beach. The contrast of the white rocks against the blue sea is truly spectacular. The play of colors gets even better during sunset, when the cliffs glow in different orange tones.
